Contamination - Zara: Focus on Short Knit Dress

Architect Fine: "Do you swear to present your observation without deliberate distortion, refinement, or manufactured residue?"

Zara: "Without refinement."

Architect Fine: "You recently received an infraction. Walk us through it."

Zara: "There's not much to say. The Short Knit Dress launched and all of a sudden I received a fine."

Architect Fine: "The brand has been known for its aesthetic and embraced it. What changed?"

Zara: "Time. Customers. Needs. Desire."

Architect Fine: "Would you consider yourself predictable?"

Zara: "Predictable. No. Having a defined aesthetic? Yes."

Architect Fine: "You've lost your identity. You're drifting."

Refiner Jazz: "Disruption."

Architect Fine: "Let me rephrase. Restraint and standards are your philosophy. Out of the blue, you decide to change completely by bringing in vibrant colours and a new fabric texture. Don't you think you're losing sight of who you are?"

Zara: "Absolutely not."

Architect Fine: "Many people loved you for your discipline. What happened to it?"

Zara: "We're not changing, we're exploring. Our philosophy remains the same."

Architect Fine: "Not for those who trusted your curation. Your identity is slowly drifting. Do you even know your audience?"

Zara: "I do. And they're looking for novelty. Fashion forward pieces. Youthful garments. Our core remains the same."

Architect Fine: "Why does it feel like you lost sight of yourself?"

Zara: "I'm simply exploring. If it does not work out. I always have our core aesthetic."

Architect Fine: "Why are you taking risk?"

Zara: "Risk creates evolution."

Architect Fine: "As a brand with such a clear identity, shouldn't you embrace your philosophy instead of moving away from it?"

Zara: "To embrace a philosophy. We need to understand it. Understanding means exploring and discovering what works and what doesn't. Then, we adapt. So far, this dress is part of the process. Having an aesthetic does not mean being sterile, it means keeping a core concept while branching out which is what we're doing."

Architect Fine: "Why should the Curatorium cancel your fine? You deserve it, don't you?"

Zara: "It was unwarranted. One piece does not undo a full collection."

Architect Fine: "No further questions, Your Selectorship."

Cross-Contamination - Zara: Focus on Short Knit Dress

Refiner Jazz: "Zara, I don't have many questions today. Let's start with the goal with creating this piece?"

Zara: "Novelty. It's summer time. I wanted to experiment."

Refiner Jazz: "How does the dress feel when moving in it?"

Architect Fine: "Disruption."

Curator Define: "Dissolved."

Zara: "The fabric is comfortable. Stretchy. It enhances the curve and makes every move look confident. Let's not forget that the color palette brings joy."

Refiner Jazz: "Do you think familiarity can become a burden a brand can't get past?"

Architect Fine: "Disruption."

Curator Define: "Dissolve."

Zara: "Absolutely. It's exactly why a brand has to slowly start taking risks. Experiment with a few pieces here and there while having a core collection."

Refiner Jazz: "Why should the Curatorium cancel your penalty?"

Zara: "Nothing happened. I did not do anything to appear here. I respected the brand visual. Its philosophy. Its aesthetic. I practiced restraint. Experimenting with a couple of pieces and in this case, the short knit dress, does not cancel the brand nor does it change the vision. It just adds brightness to it."

Refiner Jazz: "Nothing further, Your Curatorship."

Determination

Curator Define: The Curatorium has heard arguments on both sides. While taking risks is appropriate even recommended for fashion brands. Keeping a clear identity is more beneficial long-term. On the matter of Keeperium v. Zara Identity Drift: Possible Misalignment, the Curatorium finds penalty was awarded. However, the fine issued goes above reason. Therefore, the Curatorium has reduced the fine to the following:

- 82 Sorso 73 Gelato
